Best Time to Visit Castillo de Colomares: Season, Time of Day, and Timing Traps
Early morning is ideal (10:00–11:30)
Gates open at 10:00. Arrive by 10:10, and you walk mostly alone. The sun is low and soft. The light for photography is excellent. The air is cool. Stairways and passages have shade. Summer afternoon trap (14:00–17:00)
From mid-June to mid-September, the monument closes from 14:00 to 17:00. This is deliberate — afternoon heat is too much. If you plan a 2pm or 3pm visit in July, you will find closed gates. Many tourists arrive expecting to be let in and are turned away. Do not plan a midday summer visit.
Summer evening (17:00–19:00)
Gates reopen at 5pm when the heat has dropped. The evening light is golden. The temperature is cooler than midday. If you spent the afternoon in Mijas, Marbella, or at a beach, you can drive to Colomares for a 5pm slot and walk until 9pm. This works well for people who want to avoid peak daytime heat.
Spring and autumn (10:00–16:00)
